Email Address

You perfectly know how important it is to have a place to live in. No company would hire a homeless person. They will need your mail address to send you checks, documents or anything sendable via post. We discussed how the mail address has to be, and here we are discussing how the E-mail address should look like; since it is almost impossible to start an organized business without using emails.
Imagine that you are a recruiter, and you received a CV with an email address which looked more or less like this:
142557968tin_tan_hahaha@…com
What would be your impression? Would you think that the sender is serious enough to work with?
Let me share a part of my experience in this field.
In 2012 the company I have been working in was hiring, and we received a big number of CVs. One of them included an email address like (I cannot put it here, sorry) this:
princess of love @ …
Imagine you are a customer and you received an email like this, would you open it? Of course no. It looks like a spam.
Now you have an idea of how serious you should be when adding your email address to your CV. Let me share another experience, please, with you.
In 2013, I received another CV from a young man who was looking for a training, and his email was simply like this:
knife war…@…com
Knife? War? Was he going to work or to fight? Does this imply how his psychological structure is? Is his mood always explosive?
Please make sure you avoid creating embarrassing email addresses or threatening ones!! the email address is a serious thing and it says a lot about your personality. Thus it has to be an address to YOU and not to another idea or concept. It has to contain mainly:
  • Your first name,
  • Your last name,
  • Some logical digits (without exaggeration.
Here are some examples:
  • firstname.lastname@… .com
  • lastname.firstname@… .com
The best example I can give here is my email address oudra.youssef@gmail.com
You can also put the first letter of your first name, and then your whole last name after a dot “.” just like my yahoo email address: y.oudra@yahoo.com .
What you should avoid is to:
  • Put an email address different from that one you send your CV from,
  • List more than one email address on the same CV,
  • Put the email address of someone else (husband for example),
  • Put the email address of a domain which is not secured or not known,
  • Put the email address of a .fr while you live in Spain (.com is always better but not compulsory),
  • Make a mistake in your email address,
  • Give access to your email account to someone else.
You need to be very diligent when it comes to your email address. Like your salesperson; it should be your representative.
One last thing to add, is this:
Watch out the the name you use to open an email account!
It happened to me to receieve a good resume from a lady, but the information she used to create her email account were different. The person who checks your resume and tries to contact you may get confused when he receives another email from you. He will think he is dealing with two people especially if your email is:
tommy ford @ gmail.com
and your real name is Peter Bill.
In terms of time, it is time consuming. It is confusing, and it gives a bad image about you, because the person on the other bank will find it hard to contact you and to remember you. He will think you either:
  • Do not like your name,
  • Pretend to be someone you are not,
  • May call customers not using their personal names,
  • Influenced by movies.
It is your responsibility to make your future employer remember you and select your resume.
